Why Join The United States Coast Guard Auxiliary?
As a Coast Guard Auxiliarist, you will receive training in numerous disciplines and enjoy the opportunities which your service to your fellow American Citizens provides, permitting you to meet new people, acquire (new) skills—free of charge—and benefit from the practical experience and fellowship which your service provides—both to yourself and others.
You have the freedom to progress in the Coast Guard Auxiliary as your time permits and as your expertise and experience continue to grow—through both (classroom) instruction and hands-on application of skills—additional opportunities will be presented to you.
As a member of the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary, you may choose from a wide variety of exciting opportunities for service in multiple disciplines and many people choose to become qualified in multiple fields of expertise. Auxiliarists are formally recognized by the United States Coast Guard and the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary for their accomplishments. Auxiliarists assist the Active Duty members of the United States Coast Guard in virtually every aspect of the Coast Guard's duties. Auxiliarists may choose to do any number of jobs with the Coast Guard; listed below are some of the ways in which you may choose to contribute to the United States Coast Guard (Auxiliary):
-
HELP SAVE LIVES—Through boating safety instruction in the classroom, through Vessel Safety Checks, or (directly) through on-the water operations. Your personal contribution to Public Education and Boating Public Safety can, and often does, literally save lives.
-
INCREASE YOUR SKILLS—Take advantage of the advanced training which the United States Coast Guard provides in such areas as Surface Operations, Leadership, or any one of the many courses available through the United States Coast Guard and the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary. As a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary, there are no fees for these courses.
As an Auxiliarist, you will learn the "Coast Guard Way" of doing things, and you will have the opportunity to greatly enhance your boating skills. Once qualified, you may opt to use your own vessel—if you happen to have one—to perform missions for the United States Coast Guard. Additionally, you will also have the opportunity to help train new crews and future members of the United States Coast Guard (Auxiliary).
You can leverage your existing talents, skills and experience to gain new positions and qualifications as you progress in the Auxiliary.
-
SUPPORT THE (ACTIVE DUTY) COAST GUARD DIRECTLY—Become qualified to serve at Coast Guard units in Radio Watchstanding, Marine Environmental Protection, Homeland Security, and other Operational and Administrative Support roles.
